How did it all start?

Growing up, I always wanted to be the hero of a story and help people. However, as I learned more about the role of therapists, I realized that it was not about being the hero, but about empowering individuals to become their own heroes. While learning about myself, I also learned a trade and began working in the residential care space for adolescents. This experience showed me that I had a lot more to learn, which led me to work in Parkville Youth Detention Centre and eventually move around the sector as a Foster Care Case Manager and child protection practitioner. Through these experiences, I learned how to be a child-centered play therapist and work with sexual assault survivors. Eventually, I opened a therapeutic practice to build a service that could adapt and be anything it needed to be.

What has been the biggest challenge?

Working within the community sector can be challenging at times, as it's easy to feel powerless and wish for things be different. However, it's important to remember that even the smallest actions can lead to significant change. Spending quality time in relationships with others can create safety, stability, predictability, and growth, which can have a positive impact on the community as a whole.

What is the future of the practice?

The future is an exciting journey of learning and growth. It's a journey that never ends, and there is always so much more to discover. From learning about ourselves to understanding how the brain works, to how our experiences shape our views of the world, our relationships, and ourselves. The journey of growth is a never-ending adventure that we should embrace with open arms.
